Finally realizing Barkow's true intentions, Anne tells Covington she believes him and they kiss.
When Anne rides in and tells Barkow she believes Covington, he angrily beats her and forces the town's cowardly sheriff to marry them in front of the townspeople, thereby giving him legal control over the ranch. When Rafe gets to his friend's ranch, he finds that Barkow, the local power in town, wants not only the ranch but the woman, too, and hires a gang of gunfighters to make sure he gets both. After the Civil War, two brothers demobilized from the army return home and must rescue certain relatives who have been kidnapped by a band of renegade Confederates. Dorn shoots Covington in the shoulder, but Covington plays dead and then shoots Dorn in the ankle and again in the chest when he isn't looking. When the three days run out, Barkow sends Dorn to the ranch, where he perches atop a hill with a sniper rifle. Outside, a severely drunk Mike challenges Covington to a duel. He helps a friend as "temp" with a serial killer in Boston. Barkow's thugs then steal Rodney's cattle and herd them into town.

Crossfire trail is about Rafe Caradee a cowboy who gives a promise to a dying man that he will protect the man’s wife, daughter, and ranch. Dorn opens fire with his rifle from afar, shooting J.T.
Though her son was declared dead, she hopes he will reopen the case. Meanwhile, Barkow attempts to convince Anne that Covington is interested in the ranch for himself. He offers Gill the chance to stay, but Gill openly sides with Covington. Police Chief Jesse Stone's suspended in Paradise. While the musical score and cinematography received praise, most critics suggested the film added nothing new to the Western genre as a whole.

I liked it just fine, anyway, without the "R" rated stuff - and enjoyed how the movie delivers just what it should.
Barkow then attempts to rape Anne in a hotel room, but he knocks her out when she fights back. Crossfire Trail has just about every element you could ask for (a Sioux war party, a cruel hired gun, a shootout in the street, even a cattle stampede), but it spins them out with such clean efficiency that you can't help but enjoy it.
